Route 66

THE ROAD TRIP

Whereas, you can find many links with Historic 66 with precise locations (I’ll put some here as well) ..what I’ll focus on here, in brief..is our explorations of latitudes within striking distance of the most famous ByWay ..indeed the Greatest Road Trip in the US! We left Las Vegas Nevada PhotobucketPhotobucket and spent a month exploring the ByWay, but for instance ..where in the song..”don’t forget Winona”..I sing..”don’t forget Sedona” .Photobucket.and we hit Sedona! Our focus ..Arizona and New Mexico. This outside of Flagstaff: Photobucket Valentine: Photobucket..on the part of Rt 66 set aside beginning at Kingman by the state of Arizona, possibly, as historic. It’s a very exciting drive..and for perhaps 60-70 miles. Then, as we traveled the ByWay in Seligman, Az: Photobucket PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket In Williams (Rt66 NOT denoted by special sign)..we stayed in a Motel..with the Freight railroad tracks out back not 12 feet from our room! The train came by twice at night..but it was very exciting, not at all scary: Photobucket Futhermore..we traveled the OLD..old Rt 66 in New Mexico, which took us right to The Plaza in Santa Fe. That OLD road traversed hundreds and hundreds of miles thru NM and across and along the Continental Divide. Some New Mexico Rt 66 pics: This Daily re-enactment of a gun battle happens on Rt66 in Albuquerque Photobucket Rt 66 came into Santa Fe along what is now Cerrillos and we stayed in this Motel, The Silver Saddle: Photobucket It went directly to the Santa Fe Plaza: Photobucket ..having already blended with another famous historic ByWay…The Old Santa Fe Trail: Photobucket

Running only a couple blocks from the NM State Capitol: Photobucket

I’ve found http://www.historic66.com/  to be a great source, especially where OLD ..old 66 in New Mexico is concerned..where, and for decades..it went into Santa Fe: http://www.historic66.com/new-mexico/det-nm2.html  . There is also a Forum on this site for those interested in discussion.

Along the way, and nearby: The Grand Canyon, Meteor Crater, Sedona, Petrified Forest, Painted Desert, White Sands, Bandelier, Tent Rocks, Georgia O'Keeffe Country, Continental Divide.
