Rodeo

The Rio Arriba County Rodeo is right around the corner from us, and we have enjoyed going as a Summer tradition. This years event seemed very much higher level rodeo-in than in previous years, with team ropers ..um..ropin both ends of the steer, the steer wrestlers wrestlin steers to the ground, the bronco busters staying on til the buzzer ..at 8 seconds!

But what made this years rodeo highly memorable to us was an American Legend, The One Armed Bandit ..John Payne.

Having lost an arm in a construction accident, John Payne has perservered on and into at least our personal Hall of Fame ..and the American Rodeo Association 12 time winner of "Specialty Act of the Year".

Although the Showdown in Old Abiquiu (Rio Arriba Country Rodeo) is not a big pro tour stop ...it's a very fun filled event with this year included a female bull rider and a female team roping (father-daughter) duo in 2011..see below.
