Experience the extraordinary legacy of the Los Alamos region. From the centuries old Puebloan ruins of Bandelier National Monument to the world renowned scientific community that shaped the course of history, Los Alamos continues to excel in innovative technology for the 21st Century. Enjoy our breathtaking mountain scenery, fascinating museums, wildlife, and many activities such as hiking, backpacking, road & mountain biking, rock climbing, fishing, birding, camping, swimming, golfing, hunting, cross country skiing, downhill skiing, skating and much more. Los Alamos provides a convenient and economical base for exploring the diverse cultural and sightseeing opportunities offered by North Central New Mexico. Since Los Alamos is only 37 minutes from NMO, traveling UP there (it’s almost 7,400ft elevation) …gives up a “blast of the past”, which is to say..it has a Starbucks and a huge Campus (Los Alamos National Labs) ..and a large grocer with relatively special items (Smiths). From Los Alamos.Photobucket PhotobucketPhotobucket Los Alamos has it’s own “bedroom community” suburb, White Rock ..which overlooks the Rio Grande ..which forms a very magnificent canyon as it runs thru the Jemez Mtns..as well as several other neighborhoods. The picture on the above right was taken in “the ole days” of research. All of these “sub-urban style” accoutrements to serve the Los Alamos National Labs, nowadays focusing it’s formidable resources on solving the worlds energy needs.
