Gabriela and I had the immence pleasure of hosting Lloyd Kimble, Roger, Casey, Colby Schweiter and Jason Dent. They are from, respectively ..Illinois, Missouri and Iowa. These guys get together for "a ride" because they are the only ones they know who'll ride like they do!
We had a cash bounty out for any group of trail riders who'd blaze the trail to Ojo Caliente from here at NMO ..so that's what they did the first day out...the hard way (tracks below)!!! Through the Rincon del Cuervo and B-LM Lands and from between 15 miles the hard way and 19 the soft way. They chose the hard way and the race was ON from early on in this type terrain:
It was 85% easy ..and then 15% horror..with cliffs galore after already 4 hours of riding. Colby and Jason made a beeline for the Rio Ojo Caliente..probably riding another 2-3 miles total..but luckily missing the most dramatic cliffs..and made it to Ojo Caliente first:
Lloyd, Roger and Casey got hung up trying to find a safe way down the cliff faces and and were about 30 minutes later:
After watering and tying up the horses...a nice meal and soak at The Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs and Spa!
